A great show tonight......
Even though Ben and Kevin are out again camping and biking the Alaskan wilderness this weekend while I'm on midnight shifts......I got a nice slice of Alaskan Heaven as well. The Northern Lights came out to put on a great show. The sky had a beautiful green glow that moved slowly and mysteriously. If you have never had the privilege to view this wonder, COME ON UP! We got a room for you! The fall and spring seem to give the best displays, and with tomorrow night being the Vernal Equinox, it's SHOWTIME!
Here are some shots of the show that Fairbanks got to witness, the camera located just 30 miles north of them. It's courtesy of NICT, Japan (http://salmon.nict.go.jp). You can check in on the webcam to see if an aurora light show is playing as it's updated every 5 minutes!

Last weekend they checked out Johnson Pass down on the Kenai and brought Cubby and Kaena along.
Kevin and the pups havin a race up the trail. Look at that scenery!Last weekend they checked out Johnson Pass down on the Kenai and brought Cubby and Kaena along.
Ben takin a break. You can tell winter is right around the corner as the fireweed has lost all its flowers (all the reddish tall plants).
Kaena enjoying the open fresh mountain meadow

Beautiful Alaska in the fall

Puppies and the Bikes
A couple weeks ago, we took our bikes and the puppies out to Turnagain Arm to do the "Bird to Gird" trail.....a beautiful trail that winds along Turnagian Arm that actually starts in Indian and goes all the way to Girdwood, about 23 miles roundtrip. Needless to say, we didn't do all of it since we had the pups with us. But it was great to get them out on a great Alaskan summer day.
Pretty much my FAVORITE shot of Cubby and Ben....hangin in the Jeep, goin for a drive. So we didnt' think this would work at first, keeping them on a leash along side of us on our bikes. But after a few shakey minutes, they did great. It was awesome to finally go their pace, without us having to kill ourselves at a dead sprint!
Puppy bike ride, cont'd.
A beautiful day along Turnagain Arm and the Alaska Railroad
Family picture.....almost :)

Termination Dust....2007
Yesterday morning we woke to see "Termination Dust", or the first snow on the mountains of the season. What does this mean......not too much, but just a gentle reminder that winter is coming and we need to prepare. Good thing Ben went and got all our firewood already! This year's termination dust came almost a month later than last year....again, doesn't mean too much, just a meteorologist noticing weird weather things! :)
Unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me while I was driving to work, but I captured these from some FAA webcams we use at work. Hopefully you'll be able to see the snow at the top of the back peaks!

....nice form!Today, Zach and Kevin went with Ben to stock up on some firewood for the winter. They were gone all day and brought back a TON......actually more like 3 or 4 TONS!!!!! Way to go guys, we'll all keep warm this winter

The many faces of Cubby
One personality trait of Cubby that many people don't know is his attraction to flute music and wicker baskets. He grew up in India for the first 4 weeks of his life, as he was abandoned there by his mother and left to The Black Mambas to raise....
Every so often, he'll give a creepy cackle, it might be from the 2 month trip he took to Africa to visit his cousin Henry the Laughing Hyena...they accepted him into the tribe because of his close relation as a Jackyl...Here is his Owl impression, he watches WAY too much National Geographic channel...
